The British Columbia Teaching and Learning Council (BCTLC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 West Coast Teaching Excellence Awards. This year’s recipients are:
- Erin McGuire, University of Victoria
- Celeste Leander, University of British Columbia
- Mimi Gellman, Emily Carr University of Art and Design
- Anna Atkinson, Vancouver Island University
- Stephen McNeil, University of British Columbia Okanagan
This is the second year of these awards, which celebrate excellence in teaching in the publicly funded colleges, institutes, and universities in British Columbia and the Yukon. Educators were nominated by leaders from their universities. Each school had the opportunity to nominate two candidates.
“We are delighted to be shining a light on great teaching in B.C. and the Yukon,” said Maxwell Stevenson, chair of the 2023 awards adjudication committee. “We received many outstanding nominations for individuals who are all doing inspiring work in our sector. Even though we could only make five awards, we were grateful for the opportunity to learn from each of the nominees.”
The BCTLC is a community of leaders from the public post-secondary institutions in B.C. and the Yukon. Its mission is to provide leadership on issues of teaching, learning technologies, scholarly practice, student learning, and more to facilitate high-quality teaching and learning cultures in the region.
